And as Saul sent up the hill to the city, they found young maidens going out to draw water, and said unto them, "Is the seer here?" 1 Sam. 9v.11
Saul was walking the last, strategic steps to the greatest destiny-turning point of his life. And who did God put into his pathway to direct him into the royal carpet? Women! Maidservants! It wasn't a Levitical priest or tribal father, no. They were nameless young women just going about their regular job. Now a feast was going on in their city, but they were on the job- drawing water, gallons and gallons of it. The maidens' reply to Saul, who was seeking Samuel the Seer, Judge and Prophet of Israel, was lengthy, painstaking, poetic and deeply prophetic. They told him what he thought he needed to know and what he didn't know that he needed to hear and receive!
And they answered him and said, He is, behold, he is before you: make haste now, for he came today to the city; for there is a sacrifice of the people today in he high place: As soon as ye be come into the city, ye shall straightway find him, before he shall go up to the high place to eat: for the people will noo eat until he come, because he doth bless the sacrifice; and afterwards they eat that be bidden. Now therefore get you up; for about this time ye shall find him. v. 12-13
Amazing words from servants girls excluded from the feast! They sound like a mother's words - edifying, exhorting and comforting in truly prophetic quality. Don't be late! Don't miss it. You will find him! If Saul's' own mother had been there, would she have said it any differently from these girls? And sadly, they even issued a warning to Saul about " waiting for Samuel to come and bless the sacrifice" Years later, Saul would fail the very test the servant girls prophesied about!
FATHER: If I with the UP & COMING or with the DOWN & OUTERS, I speak for You, O God!
