Do not fret...trust in the Lord and do good... cultivate faithfulness...do not fret...do not fret... Ps.37 v.1,3,7b,8b
A friend's name and a date are written just above Psalm 37 in my Bible. I drove by her house yesterday and from what I could see, the situation she was praying about a year ago has not changed. (Yet!). Though I could not see the change she is crying out to the Lord for, I know two things. She is not fretting ( just like you today!) and a whole lot of cultivation has gone on during this past almost twelve months of prayer for God to move.
To cultivate means to till, to prepare ( soil for the growing of crops), to improve or develop by care, labor or study, to refine; to devote oneself to...Cultivate is the word I heard for us today. As it regards prayer, it takes us from Emergency Room Prayer to long-term rehab prayer. One day at a time. All the time God wants. Don't fret. He is working in the situation both to will and to do for His good pleasure. (Phil).
We can see by the list of definitions that devotion is a part of cultivation. Are you devoted to prayer? Are you a fan of prayer? The words mean the same thing in the New Testament. Acts 2v.42 tells that the early church devoted themselves to the apostles' teaching, to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer. They were fans of prayer, fans of fellowship and fans of food. Let's go eat! And pray! And cultivate faithfulness.
What is your prayer cultivating? My friend (whose name/request is written in my Bible) will get more than she is asking for! Change, growth and glory!
Father, Today we pray, and we believe to see the goodness of the Lord cultivated in the land of the living! No matter how long it takes, we don't fret!
